Crystal Gallegos was born and raised in New York City where she spent the first 32 years of her life. She grew up on Manhattan’s Lower East Side and attended Catholic Schools in Greenwich Village and the East Village. Growing up in New York City gave her an appreciation of all cultures and cuisines. She’s always loved learning new languages and is conversational in Spanish, Italian and American Sign Language.
She holds both a Bachelor’s and Master’s Degree in Elementary and Special Education from New York University and is a licensed teacher in both New York and Colorado. She has over a decade of experience in education having served the New York City Department of Education and currently Boulder Valley School District and Adams 12 Five Star Schools. She is also a passionate special education advocate and has also provided direct representation for parents of children with IEP’s and assisted them in navigating the IEP, Turning 5, and impartial hearing processes. Today she provides this service in multiple states and never once has charged a fee for her services.
While an undergrad at NYU’s Steinhardt school of Education, she met and fell in love with her husband and Lafayette local Andrew. They’ve been married 19 years and have 4 children together. She fell in love with her husband’s hometown and knew it was the perfect place to raise her children and made the decision to move here in 2015. She loves the character of Lafayette, the sense of community, the beauty surrounding the city and the amazing businesses that make Lafayette such a wonderful place to live.
Her interests include, cooking and baking, diamond painting, dining out, and walks around Waneka lake.
Serving my first term on City Council has been both an honor and a privilege. Over the past two years, I have worked hard to listen, collaborate, and advocate for the needs of our community. Together, we’ve made meaningful progress, but there is still much more to accomplish.
My vision for Lafayette is rooted in responsible growth, innovation, and unity. I am committed to building on the foundation we’ve created by strengthening our neighborhoods, supporting local businesses, and ensuring that our city remains a safe, welcoming place for all.
With your support, I look forward to continuing this important work and helping Lafayette reach its fullest potential.
